Biography
Note: This biography was written exclusively for Square Enix Music Online by Chris and is under copyright.
Ryo Nagamatsu is the newest member of the composer team at Nintendo EAD. Having taught himself to play the piano and compose from the age of six, he was eventually hired to become a member of Nintendo's sound team in 2006. His first role was scoring Wii Play with Shinobu Tanaka. The music provided a subdued and catchy accompaniment to nine mini-games intended to demonstrate the capacity of the WiiMote.
The subsequent year, he composed the majority of Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree's score under Hajime Wakai's direction. He was able to demonstrate a little more stylistic freedom on this project; for instance, he elaborated on the childish vocal theme with instrumental passages and even integrated Japanese instruments such as the shakuhachi into some compositions. His music for the title was also commemorated in the Touch! Generations Soundtracks.
Most recently, Nagamatsu accompanied Asuka Ota on Mario Kart Wii. His music ensured the classic theme arrangements and supplementary compositions were rich with stylistic diversity. Having taken gradually larger roles at Nintendo, he is expected to eventually take a leading role in a score. His next role may be Wii Sports Resort.
