ResourcesHere you'll find links to the software or plugins you may need in order to view files on this site. The majority of the software linked to from this page is free. General SoftwareViewing the Site - This site is designed to be compatible with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, the latter being the browser we recommend. It is highly recommended that you have JavaScript enabled in order to view the top-navigation. For details on how to do this, click here. Dealing with Zipped Files (.zip) - A lot of the files on this site are compressed (or "zipped") to save space. Many operating systems, such as Windows XP, have decompression software built in, though we recommend downloading WinZip or WinRar to decompress these files if your operating system doesn't provide this. Listening to MP3s and MIDIs - Popular choices for listening to MP3s and MIDIs are WinAmp, RealJukebox, and Windows Media Player (usually in-built into Windows operating systems). iTunes is also excellent software, particularly considering it allows media files to be transferred to iPods and other hardware. Sheet Music SoftwareSheet music provided on this site will be provided in four formats. Here are details about the software needed to view each type: Finale Format (.mus) - The majority of the sheet music files on this site are in this format. Finale Notepad 2006 is reliable free software to view, print, and play files, though serious composers and arrangers should consider purchasing Finale 2006 or related software if they require notation software themselves. Sibelius Format (.sib) - Many of the more prolific arrangers who contribute to the site favour Sibelius to Finale as notation software. To view, print, and play files, the Scorch Plugin is required. Serious composers and arranger should consider purchasing Sibelius 3 or 4 if they require notation software themselves. Image-Based Format (.gif, .jpg, .bmp, .png) - The sheer majority of operating systems, such as Windows XP, have in-built resources to view and print files in image-based format. Adobe Photoshop 7 is highly recommended for those requiring more advanced image-editing software. PDF Format (.pdf) - Adobe Reader is the recommended software for viewing and printing files in PDF format, now increasingly favoured above image-based formats for sheet music viewing. |
