29 Jun 2009 - Super Mario Galaxy School Concerts Announced

In January 2010, five orchestral school concerts will take place in Germany entitled Super Mario Galaxy - A Musical Adventure. Produced by Thomas Boecker on a voluntary basis, these child-friendly concerts are the spiritual successor to the well-received school concert series Heroes of Imagination that occurred in 2006. They will occur between January 20 and January 22 once again at Meissen, Grossenhain, and Riesa. To accommodate the short lesson times in Germany, each concert will feature approximately 30 minutes of music and 15 minutes of narration.

Super Mario Galaxy

The concert will tell a compact version of the game's plot with the music fitting the context. There will be a professional writer/dramaturge who is going to create a fitting back story of the 'musical adventure'. There will also be a narrator on the stage.

There will be an education aspect too. The concert will present certain instruments to the children and will present certain instrument groups for music themes. Producer Thomas Boecker has said: "It is no secret at all that we are following the example of Peter and the Wolf very closely. This is the intention - it is basically a modern version of that work."

Jonne Valtonen — acclaimed for his work on Symphonic Shades and Symphonic Fantasies — will arrange a selection of Super Mario Galaxy pieces for the concert. The concerts will be performed by Neue Elbland Philharmonie under the baton of experienced conductor Christian Voss. The concert is officially licensed and sponsored by Nintendo.
